Buddy Preliminary Sketches
Got some pictures of a black lab for a commission today - thought I would do some preliminary sketches - decreasing detail, the last two are continuous line drawings.

Casey Resting
Just finished this commission - a portrait of Casey, oil on canvas. On this occasion I did not prime the canvas with yellow acrylic pva and sand as I usually do. I didn't like the smooth texture at first but forgot after a while, and it was probably an advantage when I had to remove and repaint a large area.

Abstract Dahlia
Bought a job lot of canvas at auction last week - this one was too big to store - 1.2x1.2m so I put it straight on the wall and painted in situ. Abstract design mostly for its colour scheme an shamelessly borrowed from Lynne@artbylt.com but I didn't have $2300 spare for the original.

Spaniels comission
These two have been sitting on my easel with no eyes for a week or so while the painting stopped for DIY to take priority. A commission for a birthday... a bit tricky because one of the dogs is old and blind but the owner wanted her depicted in her former glory - there weren't any good photos so I hope it's a decent likeness.

Spring Onions
A friend gave me a sketchbook yesterday. I'm going to try and do a drawing each day. Starting with this; a 5 min continuous line drawing with felt tip.

Beach Karate
Oil on MDF board - recycling! Not sure whether I like it yet. 47x36cm - that will be a nightmare to frame. From photo:

Dragonfly Collages
Network Arts day yesterday - textural collage with Sarah Janavicius. Didn't get on very well with the textural bit but enjoyed the collage.
Spent the afternoon on the carpet surrounded by dragonfly wings..looked a bit like I had been dismembering them.

Return to Fish Street
So I recoloured this with oil pastels - figured I had nothing to lose since I didn't like it the way it was. Think It's an improvement?

Amotherby St Helen's North Yorks
30x40cm oil on canvas. Wanted to paint a scene from this village but slim pickings on Google images hence the church. At least there was a nice bare tree. Needs to be dry enough to handle in 3 days... used fast drying medium - fingers crossed.

Orchids
600 x 600mm oil on canvas. Thanks to a gift of some beautiful orchids from my friend Lesley. Quite a big canvas - recycled. I started doing detail but didn't like it so got a big brush and stood back to paint. That's the second time this week I've been channelling Rolf..

Monochrome Fish Street
The other end of Fish Street - with a monochrome palette and 2 brushes - with the result that I have maybe gone a bit Rolf. I wanted the emphasis on the bunting and also wanted to work on getting tonal values correct. Once the oil paint is dry I will work back over it with coloured oil pastels. Bit of an experiment. Strangely pleased with the person with carrier bag. But whether to colour in the bag. That will torture me. 45 x 55 cm oil on canvas

Flags out on Fish Street Northampton
Have been looking for images of flags / bunting to do something for the NetworkArts summer exhibition 'Jubilation' ... Meanwhile I was asked to do a commission of Fish Street in Northampton for Vanessa and Paul who lived there for a few months before heading home to Australia. The sun shone, the flags were out, it looked beautiful, yes it really did!
First attempt - oil on canvas, 45x 55cm so now just need to decide whether this is the one to ship to Australia or to keep for the Exhibition.
I will paint this scene again, this time in a looser style. I will let my patrons decide which they prefer.

Greens Mill Cononley North Yorks
A stealth painting for a dear schoolfriend who I hope to see next month for the first time in 20 years... as well as this rural scene of the town where she lives, I found a great picture of a terraced street, with a fantastic name - Fryingpan Row. Can't resist...

Road to Sledmere North Yorks
Needed to get on with this - birthday present for my sister, needs to be dry in a couple of weeks' time. Had this extra wide canvas on my easel for a week, struggling with what to do with it. Happy with how it turned out. Hope it's not too bleak... lots of positive feedback on Facebook though.

Drawing workshop - Network Arts
A day of drawing tone, shape and form with tutor James Wright. Challenging the draughtsmanship - this exercise was to use fineliner pens so creating all tone using cross-hatching, more like etching.

Combe Martin Devon
A big canvas and a more detailed view than I normally tackle... and sea... A place much loved by a friend - surprise present - was delighted when she recognised the place - result!

Jubilee Dog
Since it's the Jubilee and the weather is revolting, thought I'd work on a piece for the Network Arts summer exhibition with the theme 'Jubilation'.
This is the first time I worked on a dog picture from a library shot rather than an owner's pic - turned out OK I think - I do like short haired dogs to paint.
